The Speen Pre-School Staff Team

We like to work on the basis of four members of staff at every session. This means we often have significantly higher child to staff ratio than is required by Ofsted (depending on the number of children in on any one day) and means we can really focus on the individual needs of each child.

The minimum ratios required by Ofsted are:

  • children aged two: 1 adult : 4 children
  • children aged three to five: 1 adult : 8 children

Our Leader holds a Level 3 Certificate in Early Years Foundation Stage practice and is currently completing her Foundation Degree, and both our Leader and Deputy hold an NVQ Level 3 in Children's Care, Learning and Development.

Of the other five pre-school Assistants, one holds Level 3 qualifications, three hold Level 2 qualifications and one has 23 years experience working at our Pre-School!

All staff are encouraged to build on present qualifications by attending workshops and courses available to early years practitioners.

We use a key worker approach to ensure that each child and their family has a named member of staff to form a relationship with regarding the child's well-being and development in the Pre-School. The key person is regularly available for discussion and consultation on the child's progress.

'Staff are soundly deployed throughout the session to ensure children are supervised and supported in their learning at all times. They recognise children as individuals and know them and their families well.'
